Follow the instructions below to start REVIVE your Heirloom Starter!

PRO TIP: Don't give up! It may take a couple of tries before you get the hang of it that is why we send 3 batches so you can practice! We are here for any questions! You are not alone and you CAN DO IT!

What you will need:

  • Measuring Cup
  • Food Scale
  • Wooden Spoon ( DO NOT use metal spoons )
  • Mason Jar or Large Glass Jar
  • Rubber Band or Marker to mark the process of the rise

DAY 1- Deep breaths!

In your glass jar,

mix 5 grams of dehydrated sourdough starter with 15 grams of 80 °F water. Warm to the touch! This helps the starter activate!

Allow the starter and water to sit for about 2 hours, or until the dried starter dissolves.

-Stir in 15 grams of flour.

Cover (with coffee filter and twist close with the rim of a mason jar lid)

and put in the Sourdough Home 78 °F overnight, or for 12 - 14 hours.

PRO TIP: Leave on top of your stove with the oven light on, starter needs a cozy spot to do its magic! This is what we refer as the "Cozy Spot" in the following text.

DAY 2- Check on your Baby

DON’T FRET!

There may not be visible signs of activity at this point.

Without discarding any of what is in the jar,

stir in 10 g of flour and

10 g of warm water.

Return to the cozy spot on top of the oven with the light on!

DAY 3- Baby is taking shape!

You may begin to see signs of activity at this point

such as small bubbles and a slightly sour aroma! This means your baby doing its thang!

Without discarding any of what is in the jar,

stir in 10 g of flour and 10 g of water.

Return to the cozy spot!

PRO TIP: Start marking the sourdough on the jar so you can measure how big is rising!

DAY 4- You should see activity by this point!

The starter will have risen since the last feeding and you will see bubbles!

Discard all but 15 g of the starter.

To the left over 15 g of starter add 30 g of water and 30 g of flour.

Return to the cozy spot until the next day.

PRO TIP: ITS OKAY to throw discard away! I know it feels like a sin! BUT KNOW THAT YOU CAN ALSO USE SOURDOUGH DISCARD FOR TONS OF RECIPES!

DAY 5- Baby its ALIVE!

Your starter should be very active at this point.

It will have doubled in size, be very bubbly, and smell sweet with just a hint of sourness.

By Day 5 your starter will be very active. The time it takes to peak will have shortened from the previous days.

IN THE MORNING

Discard all but 15 g of the starter.

To the 15 g of starter, add 30 g of water and 30 g of flour.

Return to the COZY SPOT!

PRO TIP: Check your starter around the 7-hour mark. If it has close to tripled in size, then repeat the same feeding as you did in the AM. If it has not yet peaked, let it go another hour or two before checking again.

At this point, your starter should be active enough to bake with.

DAY 6

The starter should be fully active at this point AND ITS READY TO USE!
